Young people say what they think about getting their first home. What do you think?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of owning your own home, rather than renting?
There are some disadvantages but there's a lot more advantages having your own home, 'cause then you'll have your own freedom.
Well, the advantages of owning your own home over renting, you can make any changes you want to your own house without having to ask permission from the landlord.
You can like decorate it how you want and like spend how much you want on it.
I think the disadvantages are probably paying a mortgage on your house, but then again you have to pay rent every week if you're renting, so I think it depends on your financial situation.
You have to rely on yourself if things break, like wherever you have houses that you rent, you can always rely on the landlord to fix that, you don't need to worry about paying for that, but as it's your own home, you have to sort things out yourself.
Do you think renting is sometimes a good idea?
Renting is good for people that won't be able to afford a house.
If you need a place for a short time and you don't want to spend money to buy a new house, renting's quite good.
Renting could be a good thing if you're young and you're just getting yourself started, you don't need to own your own house because you're not fully settled yet.
I think renting is probably a good idea if you're staying somewhere for the short-term, but if you're settling down I'd probably go for a house.
Renting somewhere too is probably a good idea to start with when you're younger because you don't have that much money and enough money for a mortgage and stuff and then when you get older, probably your own house is easier.
It's more manageable because you have to pay smaller amounts monthly, so it'll be easier to manage.
Would you be prepared to go without things now, in order to save for a deposit on a home?
At the moment I'm not thinking about getting a mortgage, but in a couple of years' time, I might put some money aside, start saving up.
I probably wouldn't be willing to go without things to save for my house right now, but I think in the future I'll probably start to save.
Maybe you could cut down on some of the stuff you spend on like going out and stuff and you could maybe cut back on holidays for a couple of years until you got enough money.
I doubt I'd be able to go without anything to save for a mortgage.
Because I'm young I like things all at once, so I'm not really a person that saves money, so I wouldn't necessarily save money for my future.
