MoneySense Research Panel

The RBS MoneySense Research Panel is a five-year study and is the largest ever undertaken into young people's behaviours and attitudes towards money. Over 10,000 12-19-year-olds took part in the most recent stage of the survey. Findings included:

  • Over two thirds of young people surveyed say that their money management skills have improved during the recession.
  • Fewer young people reported receiving a regular amount of money each month in 2009 compared to 2008 and 2007.
  • Boys are more likely to save their money than girls - 33% compared with 24% save all or most of their money.

The findings also revealed that the MoneySense for Schools programme has proven to make a positive difference to young people. Those taking part in at least two lessons displayed more positive attitudes and behaviours towards money.
