About MoneySense for schools

Given the complexities and uncertainties of today's global economy, it is now more important than ever for young people to learn how to manage their own finances.

The MoneySense for Schools programme is designed to teach students aged 11-19 what money is all about, how banks and other financial providers work and how to manage their personal finances, both now and in the future.

MoneySense is an impartial programme which does not reference or promote products or services. It has a presence in over 65% of secondary schools in England, Scotland and Wales.

The MoneySense for Schools programme has proven to make a positive difference to young people. Those taking part in at least two lessons displayed more positive attitudes and behaviours towards money (source: MoneySense Research Panel).

RBS group believes that an informed and financially capable generation will be a successful one and is committed to working towards this goal. Building on the success of the programme to date, MoneySense has now been comprehensively improved and updated. The new website is even easier to navigate, and there are many new videos and interactive activities to suit different ages, abilities and learning styles, including those students with additional or special needs.

Delivered in four modules, each of which are divided into smaller topics, MoneySense covers the basics of money management, including; how to open and manage a bank account; budgeting, spending and loans; saving and planning for the future; and finances for Enterprise. Modules will be launching through Autumn 2010.

Comprehensive teachers' notes, including curriculum links, learning objectives and outcomes, print resources and end of unit assessment quizzes are provided within each of the modules.
